Ledger & Lore · A Field Dossier

The Mutation Begins

Baysed Labs sold NFTs on the XRP Ledger before the XRP Ledger could make NFTs. Five years later, every piece they handed you — the Ape, the Hog, the banana — turns out to have been one machine, and today the machine switches on.

Three Ravagers — Baysed Labs' new mutation collection

Every NFT project says it's playing the long game. Baysed Labs can prove it, because their game started before the board existed. In October 2021 there were no NFTs on the XRP Ledger — no marketplaces, no XLS-20 standard, no way to mint so much as a pixel. That month, the account now known as @BaysedLabs appeared anyway, and asked the only question that ages well in this industry: what if we built the community first?

Today, September 3, 2026, that patience gets its punchline. The Ravagers mutation is live — the XRPL's first interactive on-chain mutation mint, where a Bored Ape, a Hog, and a fistful of $BAYNANA walk into a laboratory and something entirely new walks out. This dossier is the story of how five years of "generous freebies" turned out to be a blueprint.

Chapter I

Selling the future before it shipped

In November 2021, Baysed Labs pulled off one of the most quietly clever moves the young XRPL had seen: the BAY IOU token. Because native NFTs didn't exist yet, each BAY token was a promise — the right to redeem one Bored Ape XRP Club NFT the moment the Ledger learned how to make one. They weren't waiting for the technology to catch up. They were building around its limitations and letting the technology catch up to them.

On November 22, 2021, the first public discussions surfaced on Reddit. On December 4, the project unveiled itself properly in its first Medium article: a collection of 10,000 apes, the IOU redemption model, a roadmap, a website, and communities on Discord, Telegram, and X — with an NFT Calendar listing that same day confirming BAY tokens would convert to native NFTs once the chain allowed it. Through late 2021 and early 2022, BAY IOUs traded on the Ledger while holders waited on a promise.

Then October 2022 happened. XLS-20 activated, native NFTs arrived, and just weeks later — November 5, 2022 — the first Bored Apes XRP Club NFTs were minted on-chain and IOU holders redeemed apes they'd been holding on faith for nearly a year. The experiment worked exactly as designed. The BAY IOU became a piece of XRPL history: proof that innovation comes from vision, not limitations.

Chapter II

The kingdom assembles its pieces

Minting the apes was never the finish line. Owning one BAY ape makes you a King of the Jungle — primary collection access, jungle events, future games, IRL gatherings, and one very important salary: 1 $BAYNANA per ape, every single day. The club currency is capped at 21 million, trades live on the DEX, and — as the team kept hinting with a straight face — was "designed to power the next evolution of the ecosystem."

Then came the Hogs: 8,888 NFTs airdropped completely free, one per ape, styled as every King's loyal bodyguard against the jaguars and snakes of the jungle. A generous loyalty reward, said everyone. A load-bearing component designed years in advance, said the roadmap, much later. In November 2023 the Baysed Birds (5,555 NFTs) joined the ecosystem, and by 2024–2025 "Bored Apes XRP Club" had grown into something bigger: the Baysed Labs ecosystem.

Very few projects from the first days of XRPL NFTs are still actively shipping. Fewer still can claim that their 2021 freebies were secretly components. Because look at what every long-term holder happens to be carrying: an Ape. A Hog. A pile of bananas. Three separate pieces that were always meant to come together.

Chapter III

Today: one Ape + one Hog + 1,500 bananas

The Ravagers Mutation System is live now at lab.baysed.club. Sign in with the Xaman wallet holding your specimens, select an Ape and a Hog, feed the machine 1,500 $BAYNANA, and pull the lever. The mutation runs on-chain, the Ravager mints immediately, and the offer lands straight in your Xaman Requests tab. Your Ape and Hog go on cooldown; your new monster does not.

The Baysed Lab: Ape #7022 + Hog #2374 fused into Ravager #0421
The Lab in action: Ape #7022 + Hog #2374 → Ravager #0421.

The genetics are the fun part. Your Ravager's gene pool is built from the traits of the exact Ape and Hog you feed it, and each trait is rolled at random — source rarity doesn't tilt the dice, so a floor ape and a grail ape walk into the lab with equal odds. There is exactly one rule in the randomness: no twins. If a roll would duplicate an existing Ravager, the lab rerolls it. Every Ravager that exists is the only one of it that will ever exist.

Lab actionCostWhat it does
Mutation1,500 $BAYNANA · 3 vialsFuse an Ape + Hog into a brand-new Ravager
Re-Mutate500 $BAYNANA · 1 vialReroll the traits from the same genome — permanent, unlimited

The lab even has its own economy built in: buy $BAYNANA directly in the app (quoted straight off the ledger with a 10% SendMax buffer so you never overpay), browse and trade Ravagers, Apes, and Hogs in the built-in marketplace, and claim any Ravager from an interrupted session under Offers. Don't feel like decisions? Every mutation is another sink for the 21-million-cap banana supply that apes have been farming one-per-day since 2022. The math on that is left as an exercise for the bullish reader.

The Edge of the File

Why this one matters

The XRPL has seen mints, airdrops, and burns. It has not seen this: an interactive machine where existing collections and a four-year-old reward token combine into new on-chain assets, with reroll and gene-splicing mechanics that make the mint a game instead of a checkout. It rewards precisely the people who held longest — the ones sitting on apes, free hogs, and years of daily bananas — and it gives every one of those assets a job.

"They sold apes before the Ledger could draw one. Betting against the same team's five-year setup seems… un-Baysed."

Just as Baysed Labs built NFTs before NFTs existed on the XRPL, they're once again pushing at the edge of what the Ledger does. The community came first. The Hogs completed the second piece. The bananas became the fuel. And as of today — the mutation begins. 🧪
